Major League Baseball managers are responsible for the team’s strategy, success and growth. Assisted by various coaches, the manager creates the line-up and roles that need to be filled.

* Charlie Manuel, Philadelphia Phillies
He started off as a manager for the Indians. The Indians won the AL in 2001. He was let go in 2002. He took over the Phillies in 2005, and they finished in second place. In 2008, the Phillies won the World Series.
* Ozzie Guillen, Chicago White Sox
He is man who is very divisive. He yells and curses at many players, and the media. He became the manager of the White Sox in 2004. His team won the World Series in 2005,
after ending- an 88-year drought.
* Cito Gaston, Toronto Blue Jays
He managed the Blue Jays from 1989- 1997. His team won two American League Championships and a World Series, back to back in 1992 and 1993. After he retired in 1997, he came back in 2008.
* Jim Leyland, Detroit Tigers
He has managed at different places over the years. From 1986- 1997, he managed the Pirates. He took over the Marlins in 1997. In 1998, the owner of the Marlins- sold the team. In 1999, he managed Rockies, which led to retirement. In 2006, he left retirement and managed the Tigers, which led them to the World Series, but they loss to the Cardinals.
* Mike Scioscia, Los Angeles Angels
He came to the Angels in 2000. In 2002, the Angels won the Wild Card, and took the Yankees down- and won the American League Championship.
* Bobby Cox, Atlanta Braves
He began his career with the Braves in 1978. In 1995, the Braves won the World Series, by defeating the Indians. In 1996, they returned to the World Series, but lost to the Yankees. The Braves continued to win the N.L East Division from 1991-2005, but have went downhill in recent years.
* Terry Francona, Boston Red Sox
He started managing the Phillies in 1997, but they were terrible up to 2000- when he was let go. In 2003, he was hired by the Boston Red Sox. That same year, they won the World Series. In 2007, they won the A.L East, came back from a 3-1, to beat the Indians- where it lead to winning a second World Series.
* Tony La Russa, St. Louis Cardinals
He started managing the White Sox in 1979. He began with the A’s until 1998, where they went to the World Series, but lost to the Red Sox. He brought the Cardinals to win the N. L in 2000 and 2002. In 2004, they won the National Championship over the Astros, but loss the World Series by the Red Sox. In 2006, they won the World Series, by beating the Tigers. La Russa is the second manager in history to win for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Oakland A’s.
* Joe Madden, Chicago Cubs
He served as a bench coach for the minor leagues. From 2000 to 2005, he managed with the Los Angeles Angels. He managed the Tampa bay Rays from 2006 to 2014. Last year, the Chicago Cubs won the World Series, which they have not won since 1908.
